What is EMI?
EMI stands for Equated Monthly Installment. It is a fixed payment amount made by a borrower to a lender at a specified date each calendar month. EMIs are used to pay off both interest and principal every month so that over a specified number of years, the loan is fully paid off.
AzanToolKit Loan/EMI Calculator helps you calculate your monthly EMI, total interest payable, and shows you a complete month-by-month payment schedule.
How Your EMI Breaks Down Over Time
Even though your EMI stays the same amount every month, the split between principal and interest inside each payment changes as the loan matures. Early in the loan, most of each EMI goes toward interest because the outstanding balance is still high. As you keep paying down the balance, less interest accrues each month, so a growing share of your EMI goes toward the principal instead — this is why the amortization schedule above shows the "Principal" column steadily climbing while "Interest" shrinks over time.
Understanding this front-loaded interest pattern is useful if you're considering paying off a loan early — extra payments made earlier in the loan term save significantly more in total interest than the same extra payment made near the end.

EMI Formula
EMI is calculated using the formula: EMI = P x R x (1+R)^N / ((1+R)^N - 1)
- P = Principal loan amount
- R = Monthly interest rate (Annual rate / 12 / 100)
- N = Number of monthly installments
